2010 Suzuki KingQuads Unveiled

It took six or seven months longer than most of us expected and it was done with little fanfare, but Suzuki finally unveiled some 2010 ATVs.

On its official Website, Suzuki is showing two updated for 2010 ATVs, the KingQuad 400AS (Auto) and 400FS (Foot Shifter). Not much of note has changed – each unit features new black wheels and a new wrinkle-paint finish on the racks and front bumper for scratch resistance and durability – but it’s a positive sign for its production facility in Georgia.

Both KingQuad 400 models have their roots in the now defunct Eiger. After a makeover in 2008, the 400s were added to the KingQuad family, which now comprises all of Suzuki’s utility ATVs, minus the introductory Ozark 250.

Each of the KingQuad 400s is powered by a 376cc, four-stroke, carbureted, air-cooled engine. Independent double wishbone suspension with a coil spring, oil dampened shock is found up front, while a swingarm with a coil spring, oil dampened shock is in the rear. Suspension travel is 6.7 inches front and rear and the units offer 9.8 inches of ground clearance – not bad for a straight axle machine.

We gave the KingQuad 400 a thorough test in 2008 and it’s a contender in this class of lower-middleweights – let’s just call them welterweights, to steal another term from boxing. It’s not quite as refined as it’s slightly bigger brother – the KingQuad 450 – but power is pretty good for this class, while the chassis is well-balanced and the shocks sufficient.

The KingQuad 400AS has an MSRP of $5,799, while the 400FS will set you back $5,699. Each is available in green and red, but we couldn’t find a camouflage version or any kind of limited edition. However, it’s possible that Suzuki isn’t done quite yet.
