Polaris brings a PTO-capable UTV to market

Looking to expand into the commercial vehicle market, Polaris has launched the new Brutus family of work vehicles. According to Polaris, the Brutus is the first side-by-side utility vehicle in the market to deliver front-end power take-off capability.

“The introduction of the Brutus product family is part of our commitment to offer the commercial customer innovative and relevant vehicles that best suit their needs,” says David Longren, Polaris vice president, Off-Road Vehicles (ORV) and ORV Engineering said. “Through our 60 years of engineering experience, strategic alliances with other industry leaders and our incredible network of dealers, we are able to provide the commercial market with the most productive, reliable and versatile vehicles.”

Co-developed by Polaris and Bobcat, the Brutus was designed with Polaris’ expertise in utility vehicles and the powersports market and Bobcat’s experience in work vehicle technology and attachments. On paper the Brutus seems like the next generation of the Polaris Ranger HD, which was released in 2009 and removed from the Polaris lineup for 2013.

Pallet forks are just one Brutus accessory meant to make the job site more efficient.

Three models make up the Brutus family – Brutus ($15,199), Brutus HD ($17,999) and Brutus HDPTO ($23,999). Polaris says these models, which are manufactured at the company’s Spirit Lake, Iowa facility, are built to be the most versatile, most capable and most comfortable side-by-side utility vehicles ever created.

Each Brutus model is equipped with a 24-horsepower diesel engine with hydrostatic transmission. A treadle pedal allows travel in forward or reverse without shifting gears, providing what Polaris calls an ideal setup for commercial applications. As well, Brutus vehicles provide six inches of suspension travel and come with On-Demand True All-Wheel Drive and hydraulic power steering.

Multi-link coil over De Deion rear suspension is designed to minimize suspension sag under heavy loads.

Of particular note is multi-link coil over De Deion rear suspension, which makes its first ever appearance on a side-by-side utility vehicle. The rear suspension supports a 1,250-pound cargo capacity and minimizes suspension sag when fully loaded. The suspension also maintains the 10-inch ground clearance when trailering with the Brutus’ class-leading 2,000-pound towing capacity. A pallet-sized rear cargo box can hold 1,250 pounds and features Polaris’ exclusive Lock & Ride cargo system. Electric cargo bed tilt is available as an option on the base Brutus and comes standard on the Brutus HD and HDPTO.

The Pro-Tach attachment system comes standard on the Brutus HD and Brutus HDPTO, allowing operators the capability to change from one attachment to the next quickly and easily. A front-end mechanical PTO comes standard on the Brutus HDPTO and is available as an option on the Brutus HD. Polaris already has three PTO-powered attachments available – angle broom, finishing mower and snow blower – and three hydraulically-powered attachments – snow blade, pallet forks and materials bucket – allowing users to sweep, mow, blow, lift, plow and scoop with just one machine.

The Brutus’ cargo box can carry a whopping 1,250 pounds.

For optimal use of attachments regardless of weather, the Brutus HDPTO comes standard with a fully-enclosed, factory-installed cab with heat, defrost and air conditioning. Available Lock & Ride PRO-FIT cab components are pre-designed for the Brutus and Brutus HD frame and lock on tightly for a secure cab system. A full line of cab, storage and vehicle protection accessories also are available for the Brutus line.

The Brutus, Brutus HD and Brutus HDPTO are now available to order through select Polaris dealers with shipments starting in April.

Polaris Brutus HDPTO Attachments

A host of attachments is already available for the Brutus, with more sure to follow in short order.

In addition to the Brutus line of work utility vehicles, Polaris’ commercial offerings include current vehicles utilized by customers as reliable daily workhorses. The portfolio consists of models from the Ranger side-by-sides and Sportsman all-terrain vehicles, as well as the GEM line of premium compact electric vehicles.
