Rear brake part requires replacement

KTM North America Inc., of Amherst, Ohio has recalled its 2008 450 XC and 525 XC ATVs due a problem with the rear brake caliper support.

According to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the rear brake caliper support can crack, which could result in the rider not having use of the rear brake.

No injuries have been reported due to the potential defect and the CPSC says consumers should stop using the product immediately unless otherwise instructed.

The recall affects about 270 vehicles, which were sold by KTM dealers across the United States in August and September 2007 for between US$8,800 and $9,000. The vehicles were built in Austria.

Consumers who purchased the ATVs have been sent a recall notice from KTM and have been asked to contact their local KTM dealer to schedule an appointment for a free repair.
