Wimmer, Wienen finish 1-2 in AMA Pro ATV Championship

Team Rockstar/MSR/Suzuki/Yoshimura put on a show in the season-opening event of the ITP/Moose Racing AMA ATV Motocross Series at Glen Helen Raceway on Sunday, March 9.

Suzuki teammates Chad Wienen, Dustin Wimmer and Doug Gust went 1-2-3 in qualifying and they continued their dominance in the motos.

Wimmer cruised to the checkered flag in both motos to claim the victory in his first race of the year. Teammate Wienen took second in both rounds to give Suzuki the top two spots on the podium. Kawasaki’s Josh Creamer was third.

“We’ve been doing a bunch of testing and things just seem to be getting better and better,” says Wimmer. “We have the fastest motors, Fox is doing a great job with our shocks, and the Suzuki QuadRacer R450 is just plain awesome.”

Wimmer was second after the start of the first moto and he managed to pass Honda’s Joe Byrd on the first lap and never looked back. In the second moto, Wimmer was third out of the gate, passed Creamer on the first lap and got clear of Byrd on the second before cruising to the win.

Can-Am’s John Natalie ended up in fourth, while Suzuki’s Gust rounded out the top five.

“The Suzukis and our riders look like the ones to beat,” says team manager Kory Ellis. “It’s the best possible way to start a season.”

The next ITP/Moose Racing AMA ATV Motocross event is scheduled for March 29 to 30 at Mill Creek Raceway in Pell City, Ala.
