Best all 'round utility ATV. Wish I could find another.
By James (I am an Owner) on Nov 17, 2021My father bought it for use around the farm. It was HANDS DOWN, THE BEST utility ATV we had. Three years later, we traded it for the 700 EFI Special Edition... and I would rather have the 400. Ours was a rare version, as most of these came with solid axle rear. Ours had independent suspension. The ... only option they didn't offer that I only needed once, was a locking diff. Thankfully, it was also light enough to tug out of that situation without using the winch.. Aside from that, it had plenty of power for utility work, plenty of speed (about 50mph), a 5spd MANUAL TRANSMISSION (anybody else miss those?), 3 ranges (hi, low, super low), was the perfect weight, the tires had the perfect utility pattern, and it was easily serviceable. It had plush suspension that you just can't find on any make/model ATV these days. It smoothed out the roughest terrain, and gave much needed relief on those back and forth trips across the farm. The super low range was handy as well. It let us do work that could only be done by much bigger/heavier machines, without burning up the clutch (or a CVT belt in these newer units).

Own 2
By Stephen Lockhart (I am an Owner) on Oct 22, 2016I inhereted an 04 400auto. With under 2000km the flywheel magnets became unbounded and bent the stator. Not covered. New one has sealed magnets so never happen again. Rear brake peddle pistons are faulty. Bought a second 04 400std. Already replaced flywheel. Did rear brake and they are both NOW phenomenal! ... The std has a front diff lock that is beyond great! They are soo reliable it's unreal. Power to spare. I would buy a third for my daughter given the chance without hesitation. Front winch mount sold seperatly. Mid stars for not making a recall on the flywheel since it affects 99% of the machines including suzuki eiger engines.

awsome atv
By April Kucher (I am an Owner) on Apr 26, 2010My family has 17 acres in upstate NY w/ a lot of it being woods and swamps and we've taken several different atv's up and this is by far the best. This ATV is a power-house! It's amazing how easy is is to drive and how well it does in even the nastiest of trails. I happen to be female and my husband ... loves this ATV just as much as I do (he has a yamaha yfz) If you're lucky enough/have the chance to own one,you definatly won't be dissapointed!

I love this ATV goes anywhere you cant stop it!!!
By Andrew Spivek (I am an Owner) on Dec 24, 2008We got out 2004 Arctic Cat 400 4x4 4 years ago to keep up at our cabin where there are lots of trails, and this machine has been great I cant say anything bad about it. In the spring when theres alot of water and mud i've had it up the to seat in mud/water and it just power through with no problems ... that 4 wheel drive is just amazing, on the actual trails it can keep up with or sometimes beat out other atv which is a 05 Yamaha Grizzly. The 4 Independent Suspension is great and very adjustable. I also think that Arctic Cat has great brakes. On the open road the Grizzly is obviously faster but only by about 6 mph so I dont really think the extra 260cc is worth it, I might also add that the Arctic Cat is bigger and heavier than the Grizzly. I think the Arctic Cats quality is much better than Yamaha. In the snow the Arctic Cat is just amazing it powers through snowbanks with no problems, I have not once got it stuck in our deep wet southeastern wisconsin snow. I've riden many ATVs like the Polaris Sportsmans which are supposed to be the best all around and I would have to say the Arctic Cat has it beat. I gave this ATV 5's across the board but for value I would have to give it a 4.5 because it is one of the more expensive 400's out there but you get what you pay for, a built proof 400cc motor made by Suzuki, The best brakes on the market, Highest Ground Clearence, and in my opinon the best quality. I would buy one again, I would like to add that we won our Grizzly in a raffle if I had my choice I would go and buy a 650 Arctic Cat 4x4 or maybe even the new Thundercat 1000cc.
