The 2012 Can-Am Renegade X xc 1000...My thoughts.

My name is Sebastien and I bought a 2012 Can-Am Renegade X xc 1000 in October 2011. I owned a '08 Can-Am Outlander 800xt with several performance upgrades before trading it in for the new Renegade.



The first time I went for a ride with my new X xc I noticed the entire feel of the quad was di...fferent as compared to the older Can-Am models. The flex in the new SST G2 frame is less noticable, the suspension has been beefed-up in the front with a whole new tubilar control-arm design and the rear trailing-arms have also been redesigned to reduce flex. The rear sway-bar has been relocated externally and has also been improved, reducing the body roll even more, plus now it's detachable for you guys that like the hardcore off-road riding and need the articulation. We can't talk about the suspension and not mention the Fox Podium X shocks that come standard on the X xc. These shocks are fully adjustable and make this quad ride like a LazyBoy, allowing me to go faster that ever before on trails that used to be rough on my old bike. The best feature that was added to this quad is the Tri-mode Dynamic Power Steering(DPS). This is the feature that truly helps you tame this beast, specially when your playing in the mud in 4x4 the DPS helps you keep those 82 ponies in line and prevents the handlebars from getting ripped out of your hands. Long story short, even though this quad weighs 687lbs dry, a 73lb increase over the 2011 model it feels lighter and more agile.

The new 1000cc(976cc) power-plant is a complete monster. This engine produces 82hp even though it has been restricted by a smaller throttle body (46mm) and a highly baffled exhaust, the same motor produces 85hp in the Commander. Aftermarket parts are already available to get that motor over 100hp, I have noticed quite the difference with just an exhaust.

There's a few problems minor problems with this new Gen2 chassis, the tie-rods are weak and bend easily and the brake pads wear quickly, mine wore in 250 miles.

All and all this is the best quad ever made and I get a adrenaline rush every time I ride, there's no better feeling than coming out of a corner at 40mph and hammering the throttle and the front-end comes off the ground!
