Junk
By Amanda (I am an Owner) on Jun 25, 2011I too have purchased a 2009 rzr 170. I have had nothing but problems. Bought the extended warranty. The things was back firing, jerking when slow down and finally would not start. Took it in to my local dealer for repair, it took them 4 months to call me and tell me what they thought was wrong with ... it. After another month they called and said it was ready to pick up. they charged me over $300. Once I got home it still wouldnt start. called local dealer left a message with the service dept. and they never called me back. Just found out the engine was blown. dont know how that could have happend and they should have been able to tell me that. After all they are suppose to be the proffesionals. These things are fun but junk. DONT BUY ONE!

POLARIS RZR 170 ** BEWARE **
By 2068004443 () on Jan 18, 2011PURCHASED NEW A 2009 RZR 170 FOR MY CHILDREN IN SEPT. 2010 AFTER I HAD PURCHASED A 2010 RANGER CREW. THE UTV RZR 170 MOST LIKELY HAD BEEN SITTING ON THE SHOW ROOM FLOOR FOR AT LEAST ONE YEAR OR MORE. PRIOR TO LEAVING THE SHOW ROOM WITH THE VEHICLE, THE RE-CALL WARRANTY WORK WAS DONE REGARDING THE ... AIR FILTER RE-LOCATION GIMMICK WHICH WAS ONLY DONE AFTER I HAD MENTIONED HAVING KNOWLEDGE OF THE AIR FILTER PROBLEM TO THE SALESMAN. AFTER 3-4 HOURS OF RUN TYPE ON THE VEHICLE IT STARTED TO BACK-FIRE AND RUN POORLY. TOOK TO DEALER (RIDENOW POWERSPORTS) WHO STTD THERE WAS WATER IN THE GAS AND THEY CHANGED THE SPARK PLUG AND DRAINED THE GAS TANK AND CHARGED ME $110 ($85 @HOUR LABOR). THE UTV WASN'T RUN FOR APPROX 2 MONTHS AFTER GETTING BACK FROM THE DEALER. AFTER GETTING THE UTV BACK AND THE KIDS RIDING IT FOR ABOUT ANOTHER 5 HOURS, SAME PROBLEM(S) AND IT WOULD NOT START AND BOGGED DOWN. DEALER WANTED TO CHARGE ME $250 FOR SAME PROBLEM AND WORK EXCEPT FOR CLEANING THE CARB NOW. DEALER ADVISED THAT SINCE MY KIDS ONLY RIDE THE UTV ONCE IN AWHILE (BEING ONCE 4-8 HRS EVERY OTHER 3 MONTHS, THE CARB & JETS GET CLOGGED. I USE A FUEL ADDITIVE IN EVERY TANK OF GAS DUE TO ETHENOL ISSUES. I HAVE OTHER CARB VEHICLES AND NEVER HAD ANY ON-GOING PROBLEMS SUCH AS THIS. I BELIEVE THAT EITHER THE DEALER IS OVER LOOKING THE MAIN PROBLEM AND NOT TELLING ME AND WAITING UNTIL THE WARRANTY EXPIRES AND THEM MENTION OF A POSSIBLY ELECTRICAL ISSUE. VEHICLE NEVER RIDEN HARD OR IN WATER. I HAVE READ OTHER PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE MODEL AND WOULD NOT PURCHASE ANOTHER. I WILL BE CONTACTING POLARIS INDUSTRIES REF MY DISGUS WITH THE PRODUCT.

razor brake master cylinder
By Nicholas Hill (I am an Owner) on Oct 22, 2010I bought my son's razor last year and no problems yet except for the other day the brake was stiff and I pushed on it kinda hard. Now the plunger that goes into the cylinder from the brake pedal is real loose. Am I gonna have to replace the master cylinder or is there an easier fix now that of course ... the warranty is up.

Poor design
By S.Rich (I am an Owner) on Apr 07, 2010I bought the pink one for my daughters for christmas. As stated above the air intake system is junk, the recall should fix the problem, i HOPE. The chain is junk on this particular one all kinked up and will not straighten out. The tranny is junked like staed in other blogs, it is at the dealer ... now with less than 15hrs on it to have a transmission installed. POLARIS, how do you feel reading these reviews on your crap product. We all spend our hard earned money in these hard times for our kids and we recieve junk. Not appreciated because now me personnaly i have a 5000.00 garage ornament that can only be driven lightly not like it should have been built for. This is only if the warranty covers the tranny , if not WOW this is crap.

RZR 170
By GOTHEV8 (I am an Owner) on Feb 23, 2010I purchased a RZR 170 for the kids. It didn't leave the dealer until they had fitted the Vent Racing air cleaner (now draws air from behind the seats) and their exhast and engine filter. The thing is awesome and the kids love it.
Advice: DO NOT USE YOUR 170 WITH THE STOCK AIR CLEANER, ... INVEST THE EXTRA $250 ON AN AFTERMARKET ONE!!

I am talking to you Polaris!!!!
By Aaron Tarajkowski (I am an Owner) on Feb 18, 2010Bought one for my son late 2009. These things are just glorified toys. Major issues Polaris needs to fix before making any more.
* Air box system is a joke. They need to make a taper up type 1 1/2" tapered to 3") snorkel to go through the bread box.
* Tranny is cheesy, cheep, thin ... Chinese Junk aluminum. Be careful if you take a jump, you will probably break the transmission housing and destroy the gears.
*Rear swing arm was designed by Cheap 5 year old Chinese Labor. The bend in the square tubing make the metal weak and will bend even more after a few rides.(anybody with IQ over 100 would know it just by looking at it) It needs to have a strengthening gusset made and welded to the swing arm so it doesn't bend.
*They need a broader range CVT clutch to give it more top end.....stock is way too slow.
I am dissapointed in this over priced toy. You really need to follow the warning label if you don't want to break it. Don't go fast, don't go up hills, don't drive on pavement, don't drive on dirt. Just drive it in a circle on grass and you might be ok.
If you want a good machine that your kids can ride, jump, go up hills and do doughnuts etc. without breaking, go get a Honda, Yamaha, or Suzuki quad.
Stay away from this overpriced toy machine until Polaris can design it to do what an off road vehicle is supposed to do - go off road and not break.

RZR 170 Problems
By bpaulkm (I am an Owner) on Dec 03, 2009I too purchased th RZR 170 as a birthday gift for my kids. Has always backfired( dealer said it was normal). They kept it to look at it. Now same problem as everyone else. Frequently cleaned filter, but now burns oil. Stopped running. Took to Polaris under my extended warranty. They said mud and ... water in motor, and motor was blown. Said it was neglect and will not fix. This thing has been garage kept and never in water over 2 inches deep. They want $2600.00 to replace motor. BEWARE!!!

RZR 170 problems
By D. Gray (I am an Owner) on Apr 06, 2009I purchased my son a new RZR 170 in Jan 2009 when it first arrived at the dealer. It ran great and my son loved it. One major thing that I have noticed is, the air cleaner is under the back near the wheels. Dust and dirt just covers it up and the air cleaner is cheezy and small so you have to ... clean it often. Now... less than 90 days old, it has started to burn oil and quit running. Dirt got into the engine and ruined the cylinder. I cleaned the filter more than what was recommended and this still happened. Also, the dealer told me that it was not designed to run in any water, trails or puddles period. I pray that Polaris will assist in the repairs! My son loves it and it was a late Santa Claus present. If I had known all this, I would have stuck with a 4 wheeler. BEWARE BUYERS!!! Will update after a meeting @ dealership on this issue. THanks!

Riley's RZR
By Randy Rose (I am an Owner) on Feb 27, 2009I bought this machine for my son, but found that I have as much fun as he does in it. Plenty of power, and very scrappy. I am getting a bottom skid plate soon though to compensate for it's limited clearence. All around this is a wonderfull machine, and I can't think of anything safer for younger ... people to learn with.

Great UTV
By Marty Martens (I am an Owner) on Feb 18, 2009We bought this for my brother-in-law who has cerbral palsy. He's high functioning but has physical limitations. His life was behind his computer till this razor 170 came into his life. It has plenty of power and we did not even adjust the factory pre-set yet! He started out slow and cautious and ... by the 3rd hour he wanted more speed. Not happening cause this was his 1st time ever behind a wheel of any sort. We fit two adults in it and it still has plenty of power.
I would suggest you buy an after market skid plate for the bottom to protect the frame and chain. I can only thank polaris for coming out with a good priced utv for the handicapped.
