ARRA Surveys Off-road Riders
Americans for Responsible Recreational Access (ARRA) is conducting a survey to learn how the US Forest Service’s travel management rule is being used.
The ARRA created the survey with the cooperation of the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) and the All Terrain Vehicle Association (ATVA) and other motorized recreation groups, and is asking off-road riders to participate.
The travel management rule, finalized in 2005, requires every US National Forest to identify roads, trails and other areas that are open for off-highway vehicles (OHVs) and publish these areas in a Motor Vehicle Use Map (MVUM) by 2010. Use of OHVs on any areas not identified on the MVUM would be illegal.
The US Forest Service says that this rule was developed to address concerns that unmanaged recreation is a threat to the health of National Forests.
