Wimmer looks to continue dominance

With just three rounds left on the 2008 Tires/Moose Racing AMA/ATVA National Motocross Championship Presented by Parts Unlimited, Dustin Wimmer and the rest of the pros are headed to Pleasure Valley Raceway in Johnstown, Pa. for the American Suzuki Summer National July 12-13.

This event represents Round 9 of the National Pro Racing tour and Round 8 of the Amateur tour.

This weekend’s event is being sponsored by American Suzuki and will also host a PAMX American Suzuki ATV Regional Championship event. The race will be telecast on Versus Network on Oct. 13 at 3:30 p.m.

Wimmer, the Team MSR/Suzuki/Yoshimura/Pro Taper rider, seems poised to continue his dominant run toward the Championship. Wimmer hails from Pennsylvania and is hoping his home state advantage will pay off as he attempts to add to his tally of five victories and two additional podium finishes this season.

Two-time defending AMA champion Joe Byrd (American Honda/Joe Byrd Racing School) sits 67 points behind Wimmer in second place, but with 50 points available this weekend his 2008 title hopes are still very much alive.

Wimmer’s Suzuki teammate Doug Gust currently sits third in the title chase. Gust has one win this season and has finished in the top five in all but two events.

Warnert Racing Can-Am’s John Natalie is also from Pennsylvania and he should have the hometown crowd behind him. Natalie is fourth in the standings and has one podium finish and three top-fives this season.

Rounding out the top five is Team Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Josh Creamer. He has ridden his KFX450R to two podium finishes in 2008.

Harold Goodman (American Honda/Houser Racing), Jeremy Lawson (Team Epic/Can-Am), Josh Upperman (American Honda/Baldwin Motorsports), Chad Wienen (Team Rockstar MSR/Suzuki/Yoshimura/Pro Taper) and privateer Rocco Arno, Jr. (Honda) round out the top ten in the championship.
