McClure finishes on the podium

National Guard Coastal Yokley Racing ATV Team rider Jarrod McClure finished third Overall in Round 3 of the 2011 GNCC Series. There were 198 total entries with 14 XC1 Pro Racers. This was McClure’s third podium finish in the GNCC Series, but his first in the past two years.

Summary

It’s only been a week since Jarrod raced a WORCS event in Arizona, and by the time he drove back to Pennsylvania and got his bike prepped, it was time to head down to North Carolina for Round 3 of the GNCC Series. Steele Creek is a great place to race, with lots of hills, rutted trails and creek crossings. The forecast was heavy rain for Saturday’s race, but fortunately, the rain stayed just south of the area which made for perfect riding conditions.

Jarrod McClure - Yokley Racing

Jarrod got the holeshot for the second week in a row, and settled into a good pace with all the top guys. He finished lap 1 in third, lap 2 in fourth, and lap 3 & 4 in sixth. The bike was working great and he was not making any mistakes. Heading into the final lap, Jarrod was right behind Taylor Kiser and Brian Wolf. He passed Wolf and set out after Kiser. Just before the finish, he passed early leader Chris Borich, who was having some engine trouble.

Jarrod thought he had finished in fourth position. Taylor Kiser’s third place finish was protested, and it was determined by GNCC Officials that he had gone off-course beyond the allowable distance, which resulted in a one position penalty for Kiser. So, Jarrod McClure was moved up a position into third place. Jarrod would rather have battled it out on the track with Taylor, but he’ll take the podium finish!

Jarrod now sits fifth in the GNCC season points chase. Racing both the WORCS and GNCC Series has been beneficial for Jarrod, giving him more seat time and experience, even though it is a lot of extra time, traveling and effort.

Next up is the Big Buck GNCC event in Union, SC on April 9. The National Guard Polaris Coastal Yokley Racing Side by Side Team will be competing there as well with drivers William Yokley and Scott Kiger. It should be another great weekend of cross country racing, hope to see you all there!
