This northern state has some unforgettable views and riding areas
While there aren’t many people who live in this northern oasis that is Montana, the few that do live here enjoy it to the absolute fullest. Some will say that the snow gets old, but many of these people also say that they love all of the off-road trails and side-by-side adventures in their next breath.
Much of the land here is privately owned, but there are still some relatively large off-highway vehicle areas that cater to ATV and UTV enthusiasts. Cities are few and far between in the state, so it’s best to pack all of your items needed for adventure in your hometown – there is no guarantee that you’ll find what you need when you get off the beaten path. So, pack up and head out on your next off-road adventure!
If you are looking for an off-road adventure in Montana but you don’t feel like towing an ATV or UTV all the way there, Destination Yamaha has a location here. Take advantage of the experience by renting a machine and getting everything you need for an amazing off-road experience aboard a Yamaha ATV or UTV on some of the best terrain in the state.
Incredible views await you along the mountainous roads of the Blacktail Wild Bill OHV trail system. There are about 23 miles of trail in the 42,000 acres of wilderness. If you want a place made for the ultimate adventure, then this might just be the perfect place. Trail obstacles (not too tough) are mixed in with wide open terrain that leads to epic lookouts on the mountains and surrounding lakes. The nearby town of Lakeside has everything you need for supplies. And, if you have a few extra days when visiting this area, the iconic Glacier National Park is just a short jaunt away.
If you’re in the mood for hard pack trails, along with some UTV play areas and hill climbs, Glendive Short Pine OHV Area should be on your shortlist to visit in the state of Montana. This area includes over 2,240 acres of open terrain. Plan your trip right after a good rain and you’ll be greeted with stellar trail conditions. This park is located in the eastern portion of the state and doesn’t have many amenities besides what is available in the town of Glendive. Come prepared!
The Koocanusa Sand Dunes and Trail System will be one of the most unique and far-away off-road destinations you will ever visit. Located up near the Canadian border, the lake here recedes in the summer months, enough to open up the sand dunes and play pits that are in the open riding area. The dunes are fairly large and include a couple different fields, and the trail system adjacent to the dunes is filled with woods and pristine terrain. Make sure you pack up enough supplies here as it is sparsely populated with none of the big box stores that you would find in the big city. Several RV parks are next to the riding area, giving you access to the dunes and trail system. All in all, this is one of the ultimate adventure spots in the country!
Located in virtually the middle of nowhere in Montana, Radersburg OHV Area is a small but adventurous place to visit with your family side-by-side. This open area has narrow canyons to explore, along with trails, hill climbs, and some play pits. The scenery here is beautiful with some small scrub brush and other vegetation. This is a good place to take beginners because of its easy terrain. Overnight camping is available in the staging area, but be advised that there are no amenities here. Just to reiterate, this area is off the beaten path, so be sure you pack in all of your supplies before you come to ride.
