  • Lots of problems
By Rio Linda Mountain Man (I am an Owner) on Apr 24, 2014

I bought a new Commander 1000XT when they first came out. Lots of power and lots of fun, when it's working. The factory gave me a 3 year extended warranty because they could not deliver the camo color I ordered due to issues with the camo peeling. I waited six months after the purchase to get the ...

I've had several problems with the unit that the dealer says is warranty and CanAm has denied to cover all three issues. Their warranty is worthless.

The cab area gets extremely hot from the engine and exhaust heat. I spent several hundred dollars wrapping the exhaust pipes, heat shield under the bed area, and insulation on the underside of the engine covers, and an auxiliary cooling fan.

Lots of gear noise from the transmission and rear differential. Impossible to have a conversation with your passenger while driving at any speed above crawling.

It has left me stranded 3 times. Had to walk 10 miles back to the truck on the second breakdown.

The last breakdown was caused by the secondary clutch bolt coming loose and let the clutch pulley come loose and wore a hole thru the plastic clutch cover casing.

Don't just take my word, go on line and read the posts on the CanAm Forums.....lots of other people have the same complaints.

Like I said at the beginning, lots of power and lots of fun. Just have a few extra riders along on any long trips. Eventually you will need one of them can pull you back to camp. And have some extra money to cover the repair costs.

  • POS!!!
By BRPsucks!! (I am an Owner) on Aug 21, 2012

This thing is a total piece of crap. Nothing but problems from the rear end and BRP doesn't want to be held responsible. After 1,200 I don't think the machine should be falling apart. Buyers beware. It was fun in the beginning...wait til things start going wrong. $1,800 so far. Never again will I ...

  • can-am roll cage failure
    By mike g (I am a Writer) on Oct 18, 2011

My uncle and his father in law just rolled this thing 10 times down a cliff. The can am commander is now in 4 pieces... the roll cage crumbled...axles snapped...the whole thing is a mess. My uncles face was riped off and his eye popped out. The driver lost 4 fingers, broke 2 ribs, punctured and collapsed ...
