year end review
By 2001386347 () on Mar 05, 2013I have had my 2012 Polaris 850 Touring LE for one year. It has the well-known, comfortable Polaris ride and plenty of power. The EPS has worked flawlessly. Plowing has been a joy. This is my fourth Polaris. All prior ATVs have been SP500s.
With all of this being said, I have experienced ... a number of problems. My check engine light came on during a trip and I was unable to use AWD at high speeds (it was stuck in the hill descent mode). I have smelled the belt burning, particularly after operating in reverse and during my trip north. This all resulted in several repairs at the dealer including, but not limited to, replacement of the belt and both spark plugs (the belt was burnt and the plugs fowled).
I had difficulty starting the bike when it was kept outside in 5 degree weather when I was up north with some buddies. There were other Polaris machines that started up without much problem, however.
Since I have had the bike back, I have had the check engine light turn on again while plowing. I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable taking the bike on a long trip in the middle of no where without a buddy on another machine.
If I can get rid of the electrical gremlins, I'll keep the bike. If the problems persist through the spring, I will sell it and try something else.
