According to a report from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), all-terrain vehicle injuries have declined significantly from 2007 through 2013.

The CPSC 2013 Annual Report of ATV Deaths and Injuries reports: “When considering the entire seven years together (2007−2013), CPSC staff found a statistically significant decreasing linear trend [for ATV-related injuries].”

American Honda and the Consumer Product Safety Commission followed Transport Canada’s lead and issued a recall notice for the Honda Pioneer due to a fire hazard.

According to the recall notice, vegetation and debris can accumulate on the middle skid plate and make contact with the vehicle’s exhaust system. Dried debris can ignite, resulting in smoke or fire.

KYMCO has recalled 2013-15 MXU 700 ATVs due to potential burn, fire hazards.

According to the recall notice, in hot environments or high elevations, the fuel cap can fail to vent properly, causing the fuel to heat up and pressure to build up in the tank. The pressure can cause the fuel tank to rupture or the fuel to boil out of the tank onto the operator or hot engine, resulting in burns to the operator or a fire.

Arctic Cat, cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, has issued a recall notice for Wildcat Trail and Wildcat Trail XT Side-by-Sides. According to the recall notice, oil can leak from the oil cooler lines, posing a fire hazard.

This recall affects approximately 5,600 units, all 2014 models with Vehicle Identification Numbers (VIN) 000001 through 316232. The VIN is located on the frame tube near the driver’s side front wheel.

Kawasaki Recalls 2012-13 Teryx4 UTVs

Kawasaki, in cooperation with the Consumer Product Safety Commission, has issued a recall for 2012-13 Kawasaki Teryx4 UTVs.

According to the recall notice, either of the front tires could deflect a foreign object (like a stick or rock) into the left or right floorboard. This could result in the object breaking through the floorboard and protruding into the foot rest area of the vehicle and, which could potentially lead to injury. Kawasaki has received four reports of debris breaking through the floorboards, including two reports of injuries to riders’ toes and thighs.

Transport Canada has recalled the 2014 Arctic Cat Prowler 500 HDX due to a fire hazard.

According to the recall notice, the fuel line may have been improperly secured. This could result in the fuel line fitting at the engine to break, which could increase the risk of a fire. Authorized Arctic Cat dealers will inspect and correct fuel line routing as necessary.
