Summary – XC1 Pro ATV

The Snowshoe GNCC is considered the toughest race on the schedule, and is brutal on riders and machines. The course runs loops on two sides of Snowshoe Mountain and goes right through the picturesque ski resort. This event is very much like the historic Blackwater 100, where the GNCC had its beginnings. Steep hills, deep mud holes and tons of rocks makes this race a huge accomplishment just to finish.

National Guard Coastal rider Jarrod McClure has had some bad racing luck the past few races, but he was focused and prepared for a strong run. The grand prix style start features five ATVs per row, starting at five-second intervals. There is always a lot of bumping and banging as the machines funnel out of the main street area into the woods. Jarrod started on row 2, and was seventh as they headed down the mountain. While jockeying for position on lap 1, he blew through a turn and got hung up on a tree. This put him back to 10th place as they began lap 2.

Jarrod started picking off riders each lap, and by the end of the 4 lap race, he had worked his way to fourth place in the XC1 pro class. His machine was fast and reliable. Mark Baldwin, owner of Baldwin Motorsports, had built Jarrod a new race motor with some trick cylinder head modifications. His bike was ripping up the many long uphill sections! His Kenda tires were hooking up great, and like always, Tireballs were an absolute necessity.

Jarrod will now prepare for next weekend’s AMA National Hare Scrambles race in New York. The next GNCC race is the John Penton in Millfield Ohio on July 9.
