The Coastal Racing team of Scott Kiger, Mark Holz, RJ Anderson, Rob Utendorfer, Tyler King and Brian McLean raced to victory in the UTV Pro class at the 2013 Baja 1000.

In its first ever Baja 1000 appearance, the Coastal Racing team piloted its No. 1934 Polaris RZR XP 900 to the finish line in 27 hours, 16 minutes and 57 seconds – nearly 24 minutes quicker than the second place Jagged X team.

William Yokley fought off 47 other UTVs to take the checkers in the XC1 class at the Mountaineer GNCC this past weekend. Team driver Scott Kiger joined Yokley on the podium with a third place finish. Yokley’s guest passenger was his wife Tina, and Kiger’s passenger was Tyler King.

Summary

The Mountaineer GNCC course features rocks, rocks and more rocks! To do well here, you must be cautious and choose your lines carefully. The area received rain on Thursday and Friday, and by race day, the track was almost perfect. There was no mud, no dust, low humidity and temperature in the 70s.

The Polaris Coastal National Guard team of William Yokley and Scott Kiger got decent starts and entered the woods in third and fourth places. At the end of lap 1, they were 10th and 13th respectively, mainly due to the later rows making up corrected time as the machines got bunched up trying to navigate the new course.

Coming off a Best in the Desert win at the Mint 400, Holz Coastal Racing’s Scott Kiger and Mark Holz in their No. 1934 RZR XP 900 were looking to make it two in a row at the Canidae Tap It Silver State 300. They did not disappoint.

With Cognito Powersports and its RZR XP 4 900 getting the nod to start first, the teams would have to work hard through the typical high-speed, dusty conditions to overtake the leader. Coastal Racing would start right after Brandon Schueler’s Jagged X No. 1919 RZR XP 4 900 setting up a speed dual to take over the lead. With Kiger driving the morning half, he would pass Schueler and all but one of the remaining cars that started in front of him.

Polaris / Coastal / CST / National Guard / Yoshimura / Yokley Racing Team driver William Yokley finished 33rd Overall and 13th in the XC1 Modified Class. Team driver Scott Kiger finished fourth Overall and third in the same class. There were 49 total entries including 21 XC1 Modified teams. William’s guest passenger was his wife Tina, and Scott’s passenger was Tyler King.

Yokley Racing Summary

The Racer Production promoters always lay out a good, challenging course for the competitors. This year, the four-mile course featured a combination of technical woods sections and faster open areas with multiple racing lines. Track conditions were very good and the temp was in the 70s.

Despite rolling his machine, Scott Kiger managed to recover and finish fourth overall and third in the XC1 Modified Class.

At the drop of the flag for the dead-engine start, the Polaris Team RZR XP 900s fired right up and were at the head of the pack heading into the woods. After some initial dicing, Yokley settled into the lead with Kiger close behind. Midway through lap 1, Kiger clipped a tree and flipped over on his top. He and his passenger got out, righted the machine, and took off in hot pursuit of the lead pack. On lap 3 of 6, Yokley experienced some bad luck when his front wheel came in contact with another machine’s rear wheel resulting in breaking a steering component. Unable to steer, his day was over.

The Holz Coastal Racing team of Scott Kiger and Mark Holz piloted their No. 1934 Polaris RZR XP 900 to victory at the grueling General Tire Mint 400.

In the starting field for Polaris was Jagged X’s Brandon Schueler in the No. 1919 RZR XP 4 900, Jagged X’s Craig Scanlon in the No. 1931 RZR XP 4 900 and Scott Kiger’s Holz Coastal Racing No. 1934 RZR XP. Joseph Vinagro in a RZR finished second, Jagged X’s Scanlon finished fourth and Jagged X’s Schueler finished eighth.

William Yokley (Polaris / Coastal / CST / National Guard / Yoshimura / Yokley Racing) opened the Grand National Cross Country (GNCC) series UTV season with a win at the Maxxis General GNCC. Yokley finished first overall and first in the XC1 Modified Class. Team driver Scott Kiger finished fourth overall and fourth in the same class. A total of 46 side-by-sides were competing in the race, including 22 XC1 Modified teams. Yokley’s guest passenger was his wife Tina, and Scott’s passenger was Tyler King.

The 2013 GNCC Side by Side season started out well for the team in Georgia. After a successful 2012 season, the team spent the winter building new race machines and fine tuning the new 2013 Polaris RZR XP-900s.

The General GNCC featured red Georgia clay soil, tight, technical woods sections linked by high-speed open fields. It was 75 degrees, sunny and windy, and the course was very dusty, especially in the fields. The shorter than usual three-mile track made for some tight racing.

New for this season is a dead engine start, and the field lined up in rows of five. When the flag dropped, Yokley’s machine did not immediately fire and he was last going into the woods. Kiger got a good start and ran up front most of the race. The track was short and the leaders encountered lapped machines on the second lap, so traffic played an important part of the race. Yokley worked his way up to where he was near the lead when he heavily rear-ended a disabled machine in the blinding dust. He was fortunately able to continue once he got unhooked, thank goodness for a strong front bumper!

With the 2013 ATV and Side-by-Side racing season upon us, Polaris has announced its race teams and contingency program.

Polaris will have teams competing in the Grand National Cross Country series (GNCC), World Off-Road Championship series (WORCS), Best in the Desert (BITD), SCORE International and Mud racing. Polaris also will continue to offer its ATV racing contingency program and has expanded its Side-by-Side contingency, which now includes both the BITD and SCORE series.

“After a successful 2012, Polaris decided to expand its factory race team for 2013,” says Donna Beadle, race team manager for Polaris’ Off-Road Division. “We look forward to another exciting and successful race season.”

GNCC

Polaris will continue to support National Guard/Polaris/Coastal racing for 2013. William Yokley took the GNCC championship in his National Guard RZR XP 900 and will look to five-peat in the GNCC series this year. Yokley’s teammate, Scott Kiger finished second in the GNCC Open Modified class in his RZR XP 900 and is back for 2013.

Polaris has provided support to the Muscle Milk/Blingstar team for 2013, and the team has signed Adam McGill to race a RZR XP 900 in the Open Modified class. The Muscle Milk/Blingstar team also will run the WORCS with RZR XP 900s.

Yokley Racing had perhaps its most successful weekend of the season at the Ironman GNCC in Crawfordsville, Ind.

Summary – ATV

With only two races left in the 2012 GNCC Pro ATV calendar, everyone wants to finish the season out strong. Jarrod McClure has always done well at the Ironman, and was looking forward to the race. Heavy rain on Friday made sure that the course would be plenty challenging with lots of mudholes and slick hills.

McClure got a good start and entered the woods in third place. He passed the first two racers and completed lap 1 in the lead. It was a tight five-way battle for the lead that was constantly changing. There were so many muddy hills and deep ruts that everyone was getting stuck once or twice a lap. The 10,000 spectators were scattered all along the track, especially on the hill climbs and mudholes. The fans would jump right in and help the racers who got stuck.

On the fourth and final lap, several of the leaders got stuck on the steepest hillclimb, including McClure. The fans grabbed hold of his machine and got him going with little delay. He got out in the final high speed cornfield section with nobody close to him. He didn’t know if he was first or fifth, so he charged as hard as possible to the finish. At the finish, he was a close second place, his best finish of the year! He moved up to fifth in the season points with just one race to go at Loretta Lynns Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn. on Nov. 3.

Best in the Desert’s Vegas to Reno race is the longest and toughest off-road desert race in the United States and it was dominated by Polaris RZR UTVs.

In the starting field of more than 20 side-by-sides for the 534-mile race, was Jagged X’s Brandon Schueler with co-pilot Cody Muir in the No. 1919 RZR XP 4 900; Jagged X’s Matt Parks, Jason Spiess and Landon Kobruck and the No. 1932 RZR XP 4 900; Jagged X’s Bill Schueler and Polaris Marketing and Sales Director Craig Scanlon in the almost-stock 1991 RZR XP 4 900; and Scott Kiger’s Holz Coastal Racing No. 1934 RZR XP driven by Kiger, Mark Holz and William Yokley.

When the dust settled, Coastal Racing would take its first Vegas to Reno win with the fastest time ever for a side-by-side in under 12 hours, and ahead of the trucks and cars. Thirty minutes later, Parks crossed the finish line second with the fastest second place finish for a side-by-side. Finishing fourth and driving the entire race himself, was Bill Schueler, with co-pilot Scanlon, and the almost-stock RZR XP 4. The No. 1991 has raced successfully all season and its fourth place finish in such a challenging race is a true testament to the ability of the RZR side-by-side vehicles. Unfortunately, five-time Vegas to Reno winner, Brandon Schueler, encountered a freak incident with the No. 1919 where a rock knocked off the oil sending unit for the oil pressure gauge and pumped oil out of the car leaving it unable to continue.

National Guard / Coastal / Bowers Motorcycle Supplies / Yokley Racing Team rider Jarrod McClure finished sixth Overall and sixth in the XC1 Pro Class at the John Penton GNCC in southern Ohio. Meanwhile, National Guard / Polaris / Coastal / Yoshimura / DragonFire / Yokley Racing Team driver William Yokley had a mechanical issue and did not finish today while teammate Scott Kiger finished third overall and third in XC1 Modified class.

Summary – ATV

The main concern for everyone at this year’s John Penton GNCC was the heat wave that is hanging over the eastern U.S. Temperatures for race day were well over 100 degrees with high humidity, making it hard on everyone. The course consisted of some new, technical woods sections, open fields, creek crossings and the Sunday Creek Raceway motocross track.

At the start, McClure’s machine did not immediately fire up, putting him near the rear of the XC1 Pros going into the woods. He quickly worked his way up to fifth place halfway through lap 1. The field sections were very dusty, and McClure hit a stump that he couldn’t see. The resulting impact threw him off the ATV, forcing him to dodge other riders as he tried to locate his machine! After losing a few positions, he got going and tried to make up some ground.

McClure worked his way up to a sixth place finish on the last lap. These were some of the hottest and toughest conditions in which Jarrod has competed. The GNCC now takes their summer break and the next event is the Unadilla in New Berlin, NY on Sept. 15. See you there!

National Guard / Polaris / Coastal / Yoshimura / DragonFire / Yokley Racing teammates Scott Kiger and William Yokley finished second and third in the Side by Side XC1 Modified Class at the Mountaineer Run GNCC in Masontown, WV. Meanwhile, National Guard / Coastal / Bowers Motorcycle Supplies / Yokley Racing Team rider Jarrod McClure finished sixth Overall and sixth in the XC1 Pro Class.

Summary – Side by Side

The GNCC Series moved on to the Mountaineer Run in West Virginia for Round 3 for the Side by Side machines. This race is new for the GNCC Series in 2012 and the competitors did not know exactly what to expect. The track featured a very technical 4.6 mile course with lots of rocky sections and tight woods. Taking care of your machine in the rocks would be important today.

The start flag dropped and after the first few turns, Kiger had the lead with Yokley in third. Later in the lap, Kiger slid wide in a turn and had to back up, dropping him back to third place. The course had tight woods trails and a few open areas, and about one half of the track was on totally newly cut trails. Both Yokley and Kiger had good pace and other than a few bottlenecks, they were on pace for good finishes.

Just a few weeks after winning the GNCC “Open Modified” UTV Championship in his National Guard Polaris Coastal DragonFire Yokley Racing Ranger RZR XP 900, William Yokley took the WORCS Racing Side-by-Side 1 Championship his first year racing the series.

“We, once again, would like to congratulate William on another championship,” says Donna Beadle, race team manager for Polaris Racing. “Both William and teammate Scott Kiger have been very dedicated to developing and racing the Ranger RZR XP 900 and we couldn’t be happier with the result.”

The last side-by-side WORCS race of the season was hosted at Speed World MX, in Surprise, Ariz. Yokley only needed to finish in the top eight to clinch the championship so he planned to be a little less aggressive than usual. It was a good thing he had a points cushion because his day did not go as planned and he ended up finishing ninth but was still able to earn the championship by, thanks to some help from Kiger.

As well, National Guard Coastal Yokley Racing Pro ATV Team rider Jarrod McClure finished fifth overall and fifth in the XC1 Pro ATV class. There were 193 total entries with 14 XC1 Pro riders.

Summary – Side-by-Side

The National Guard Polaris team arrived at this season finale GNCC Side by Side race hoping to wrap up the National Championship. The weather and conditions were perfect, and the Ironman always has the largest turnout of competitors and fans of any of the GNCC events. The fans are positioned all along the course, especially at the long hillclimb and creek crossing sections. There are also high speed open-field sections to showcase the horsepower and handling of the Ranger RZR XP900.

At the start, Yokley was fifth in the first turn, with teammate Kiger right next to him. They went into the woods in third and fourth. They moved up to second and third at the completion of lap 1. Yokley knew he could wrap up the title by finishing second, so he raced conservatively, making sure he took care of his equipment and not taking big chances with lappers. The team finished out the race in second and third, with both machines on the podium.

National Guard Polaris Coastal DragonFire Yokley Racing Team driver William Yokley finished first overall and first in the Side by Side Open Modified Class at the Powerline Park GNCC in St. Clairsville, Ohio.

National Guard Polaris Coastal Yokley Racing Team driver Scott Kiger finished 31st Overall and 17th in the same class after being involved in a mishap. There were 45 total entries with 22 Open Modified teams in the race today. Yokley’s guest passenger was Steve Gieble, and Kiger’s passenger was Joe Waligora.

National Guard Coastal Yokley Racing Pro ATV Team rider Jarrod McClure finished sixth Overall and fifth in the XC1 Pro ATV class. There were 145 total entries with 14 XC1 Pro riders.

Summary – Side by Side

Powerline Park is always a popular venue with both riders and spectators. The course offers fast open-field sections, tight, technical trails with lots of natural elevation changes. Rain during the week made the course a little slick, but the competitors agreed that it was a blast to race on.

The National Guard Polaris Team started on the first row, and as they headed into the woods, Yokley was in third and Kiger a few positions further back. There was a brief bottleneck when one racer got crossed up in a tight section allowing all the others to close in bumper to bumper. Yokley finished lap 1 in third and Kiger was seventh. By lap 3, Yokley was in the lead with Kiger in third, and the team was looking good for podium finishes.

National Guard Polaris Coastal DragonFire Yokley Racing Team driver William Yokley finished second in the Side by Side 1 Class in Round 7 of the 2011 WORCS Series, while teammate Scott Kiger finished fifth in the same Class. Meanwhile, National Guard Coastal Yokley Racing ATV Team rider Jarrod McClure finished sixth in the Pro ATV Class.

Summary – Side by Side Race

The National Guard Coastal Yokley Racing Team traveled to Glen Helen Raceway in Southern California after a brief summer break. Glen Helen hosts many different types of off-road races, including the AMA National Motocross Series. The course features a pro-style MX course with many steep hills and lots of natural elevation changes. The weather was sunny and 85 degrees.

William Yokley was in fourth place after the first turn, with teammate Scott Kiger right behind. The two National Guard Coastal Polaris Ranger RZR XP900s moved up to second and third going into the second lap. They stayed in those positions for the next several laps. Kiger dropped back to fifth place after damaging his front differential on one of the many rocks. Yokleyhad a nice battle with the lead machine, finally finishing in second place, and Kiger came home in fifth. The course was pretty rough, with many sandy washboard sections with choppy, square-edged whoops. Both machines ran strong and cool, thanks to their large capacity radiators and cooling systems built by Fluidyne Powersports.

Yokley increased his lead in the WORCS season points, and Scott is in fourth. The next side-by-side race is the GNCC in St. Clairsville, Ohio on Oct. 8.
