First ATV GNCC crown for KTM

FRE/KTM rider Angel Atwell secured the Women’s ATV Championship at the 11th round of the GNCC Series while her teammates Adam McGill and Josh Kirkland had remarkable days as well, both finishing on the podium.

Atwell only needed a top five finish to secure the Women’s Championship. Atwell managed to start inside the top three, quickly moved into second position and remained there behind her niece Kristen Atwell throughout the race. Atwell’s second place finish easily locked the championship. Atwell was kindly rewarded with a number one plate as she jumped onto the podium.

Although it was a great weekend for all KTM riders, it wasn’t the best weather. It rained throughout the majority of the day which made for a cold day and a slick and tricky track. In the XC-1 Pro class McGill started in second position behind Bill Ballance. When Ballance stopped early for goggles, McGill took over the lead at the end of the first lap followed by Brandon Sommers and Taylor Kiser.

Angel Atwell holds the No. 1 plate after securing the Women's championship.

McGill held the lead for almost one complete lap before he was passed by Sommers. The top three riders all took a pit stop at the end of the second lap. Once the riders returned to the course, Chris Borich took the lead from Sommers. McGill stayed close behind the two riders and made a move of his own on Sommers to take over 2nd position. Borich and McGill distanced themselves from the pack on the last lap. McGill pressured Borich throughout the remainder of the race through to the checkered flag only finishing seconds behind Borich.

Also starting in second position was KTM rider Josh Kirkland in the XC-2 Pro Am class. Kirkland took over the lead from Parker Jones at the end of the first lap. While leading, Kirkland made a small mistake which allowed Jones, Brian Wolf and Walker Fowler to move past. Kirkland quickly regained composure and began to close in on the top three once more. On the middle of the third lap the three leaders made a mistake which allowed Kirkland to jump back into the lead. Kirkland built up an impressive gap over the rest of the field to take a hard earned win over Wolf and Jones.
