Hunt longer and safer with these accessories for your ATV or UTV

Hunting is a great pastime and one an ATV or UTV is extremely useful for. Like anything, the right accessories can make hunting with your ATV even better. With fall around the corner, the time is now to get your machine set up and ready for the hunt. Below we are going to look at some of the best ATV hunting accessories you can get right now… and you don’t even have to hunt for them.

Smart hunters have known for years the benefit of having an ATV or UTV at hunt camp. From helping you set up tree stands and blinds around your property to carrying seed and tools for managing your food plots to hauling game out of the woods if you are lucky enough to fill your tag, an off-road vehicle is really handy to have around.

You can make your four-wheeler even more useful if you happen to have the best ATV hunting accessories to go along with it. We dig into some of our favorites in this article, including storage, gun racks, winches, quality tires, lighting, and more.

Table of Contents

1. Kolpin Stronghold Gun Boot

Kolpin makes some of the best hunting products for your ATV and the new Stronghold Gun Boot system is far and away the best way yet to safely and legally transport your gun on your ATV. The case is perfect for hauling your rifle for a bear hunt, or your shotgun if you’re after a spring tom. The case locks into a bracket that you can mount anywhere on your ATV.

2. Lund ATV Storage Box

Lightweight composite storage boxes are all well and good, but if you really need next-level protection for your tool or hunting accessories, an aluminum box is the way to go. This Lund storage box secures to your front storage rack, measures 34.5" x 12.75" x 6.38" and is built of durable aluminum diamond plate with a black powdercoat finish. Stainless steel latches add even more security and toughness. If this size isn't right for you, Lund makes boxes in larger sizes that can be mounted on your rear storage rack.

3. QuadBoss Gun Rack

In areas where you don’t have to have your gun or bow cased, a gun rack is a handy must-have. This rack holds your rifle or bow securely, which is vital to maintaining accuracy. On the plus side, you can also use to for hauling tools like an axe or a shovel when working on food plots.

4. Warn VRX 45-S Winch

A winch can do a lot for the hunter. The obvious use is to help you get unstuck should the trail turn into something sloppy. But say you shoot a 400-pound bruin? Can you lift 400 pounds of dead weight? A winch can make all the difference when on the hunt and is a must have on any hunting ATV.

5. Fly Racing Trekker Helmet

A lot of hunters really don’t want to deal with a helmet when they’re using their ATV. Those same hunters would probably like to not deal with a severe head injury during hunting season, too. Helmets save lives, just like a safety harness does for treestand hunters, and you wouldn’t think of hunting without that, right? The Fly Racing Trekker is a lightweight helmet that offers full coverage and even takes care of your eyes, too.

6. PowerMadd Star Series Handguards with Tri-Mount Kit

Handguards serve a multiple role. They protect your hands from sticks and branches as you ride back into the wild places in pursuit of the turkeys, deer and bears of your dreams. They also block that cold air when you’re headed out on a freezing cold morning. Both good things.

7. Sedona Rip Saw R/T Tires

Getting back into the places we like to hunt requires some mean tires that can both provide maximum traction, and resist going flat thanks to sharp rocks and sticks. We've tested the Sedona Rip Saw R/T extensively and came away impressed both with its durability and its performance. It's one of the toughest tires available today and good tires are among the best ATV hunting accessories you can invest in.

8. Magellan TRX-7 CS GPS

You need to know where you are, where you’re going and where you’ve been. A GPS works great for doing just that. While there are a number of solid ATV GPS units available, the cream of the crop is the Magellan TRX-7 CS. While you can easily share your route and location with a friend, we're not sure it's wise to let too many people know about your favorite hunting spot. When you aren't hunting, you can use the TRX-7 CS to explore more than 115,000 mapped ORV trails.

9. Skid Plates

Ever have a stick come up and tear a CV boot? How about a rock popping up and bashing your oil drain plug? Neither are fun and both can ruin a hunt in a hurry. A full skid plate and A-arm guards can prevent all that, helping you stay on the hunt and not in the repair shop.

10. K & N Oil Filter

You have to keep your machine running great while on the hunt. The best way to do that is have fresh oil and oil filters in the engine. K&N makes one of the best filters going. It just makes sense.

11. Rigid Industries Ignite Series Spot Light

Extra lighting while hunting is always welcome, especially when packing out your trophy at the end of a successful hunt. Rigid makes some of the best and most affordable lights and this pair of spotlights help illuminate the woods and keep you on the hunt.

12. Fiskars Machete Axe

Call it a multi-tool for the adventurous, this thing is cool. It combines a machete and a hatchet into one tool and you can use it for a lot of things. From clearing brush, to helping field dress a deer. I got one and threw it into the machine on a whim. Now I find myself grabbing it more than I ever thought I would. It’s pretty handy.

13. Yeti Tundra Cooler

Keeping a large cooler strapped to the rear of your ATV or in the bed of your UTV can be a huge help. If you’re headed back into camp and score a buck on the opening morning, you can pack that meat into the cooler, kick back and enjoy a cold one while everyone else hunts.

One great option is the Yeti Tundra, which boasts two inches polyurethane foam insulation in the sides and three inches in the lid. This particular cooler holds 75 quarts and there are built-in slots you can use to cinch the cooler down.

Derrek's love for all things ATV started when he was a mere 11 years old, growing up on his family farm. His mom gave him and his sister a choice - get a horse, or a three-wheeler. The sister wanted the horse, and Derrek wanted the ATV. Luckily he won out, and was soon burning up the trails on a Yamaha Tri-Moto 200. By the time he was 14, he had saved enough of his own money by working on the farm and in his folks restaurant to buy a new 4-wheeler. That happened the day he and his mom were driving past the dealership and saw 1987 Banshee. His mom had no idea what he was buying, and he never looked back. He's been riding ever since, and been writing professionally for many years. He has ridden all over North America and been behind the controls of just about every machine out there. And yes, he still has his 1987 Yamaha Banshee.
