Sand-X Tracked ATV [video]

What happens when you combine a snowmobile and an ATV? The answer, if all goes well, is the ultimate duning machine – the Sand-X T-ATV.

Sand-X built the T-ATV to handle the sand dunes better than any traditional ATV ever could. At first glance, the T-ATV looks very much like a snowmobile with a set of front wheels, but surely there’s more to it than that. The unit features an 800cc 2-stroke Rotax snowmobile engine that offers a claimed 160hp. Sand-X claimes the T-ATV can reach speeds in excess of 110 mph, but that seems a little generous to us.

According to the designer, the T-ATV is faster and safer than any other sand vehicle and offers a range of up to 215 miles between fill-ups. Again, that seems like a lofty claim, but we can’t say it’s not true until we try it.

Of course trying the Sand-X T-ATV might be difficult. Operations are currently based in the Middle East and we haven’t heard anything about one of these units coming to North America.
