Team UXC Racing Report: Steele Creek GNCC

Michael Swift finally put it all together for a win at the Steele Creek GNCC.

Michael Swift rode his UXC Racing Can-Am Renegade Xxc to victory this past weekend at the Steele Creek GNCC, the third round of the 2013 Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series. The podium was stuffed with Can-Am machines, but Swift’s #207 topped the U2 class and finished fourth overall for the day.

“I think I was third on the first lap and got hung up behind a few other riders but put my head down to get to that number one spot,” says Swift. “I then noticed I couldn’t see my fuel gauge and though I might be low on fuel. So I stopped on the third lap for a splash and a fresh pair of goggles.”

After losing a spot during his stop, Swift regained the lead near the finish line and wouldn’t look back. From the podium Swift took the time to give a shout out to his friend Josh Fredrick, who was recently hospitalized due to a racing injury.

“I just want to dedicate this race to my friend Josh Fredrick and our thoughts are with him as well as his family that are going through this with him,” says Swift.

Borich Looks To Stay Perfect FMF Steele Creek GNCC

Chris Borich and Walker Fowler sit 1-2 in the standings after two rounds.

Anybody who thought Chris Borich might start to take it easy after winning his fourth straight GNCC XC1 Pro ATV class title has been proven wrong. Borich is perfect after two rounds of the 2013 AMSOIL Grand National Cross Country Series and he’ll try to make it three-for-three at this weekend’s FMF Steele Creek GNCC in Morganton, NC.

While Borich enjoys life at the top of the mountain, the battle for second through 10th place is a lot less predictable with a deep field of talent on this year’s front line. AmPro Yamaha’s Walker Fowler currently sits in second place as he continues to chase Borich for a win. Fowler has struggled with poor starts in the first two rounds but the 20-year-old has successfully charged his way through the pack to secure two solid podium finishes so far this season.

Borich Looking For Hat Trick at FMF Steele Creek GNCC

Defending GNCC Pro ATV champion Chris Borich ( Suzuki) is looking for this third straight victory to start the season at this weekend’s FMF Steele Creek GNCC in Morganton, NC.

The Maxxis/Yoshimura rider leads the pack and the point standings heading into round three of the 13-race Can-Am Grand National Cross Country Series. The Steele Creek Campground hosts a variety of rough and tumble obstacles and often times the track conditions affect the outcome of the intense two-hour races. The 10-12 mile course will feature mud bogs and creek crossings, mixed with rocky hills and the fan-famous Steele Creek bridge, where thousands of spectators gather to see racers battle their way through muddy waters.

Ballance Racing Yamaha‘s Walker Fowler, the rookie XC1 pro who many expect to challenge Borich for this year’s championship, understands just how rough racing conditions can be after one of the most intense finishes in GNCC history at round two in Georgia. Fowler experienced mechanical issues just a few turns before the finish and had to push his ATV to the checkers to hold onto a podium spot. He was exhausted, but the effort keeps him close to Borich in the series’ standings. The rookie still isn’t satisfied and will be back to avenge this weekend in North Carolina.
