First race for Yamaha's new Sport UTV

Yamaha unveiled its new YXZ1000R Sport UTV to much fanfare on Sept. 1. Just four weeks later the YXZ1000R competed in its first race; WORCS Round 8 at Glen Helen Raceway in Devore, Calif.

2016 Yamaha YXZ1000R Unveiled Dustin Nelson was the lucky pilot and he raced a basically stock YXZ1000R to a third place finish in the Pro Stock class. Nelson laid down the second fastest lap of the race.

On his Facebook page, Nelson noted that both his drivetrain and suspension were bone stock. He also talked about using the manual transmission in a race situation.

“I raced for an hour today on a track with very tight sections and never even had the fear of stalling,” Nelson said.

The next and final round of the 2015 WORCS series takes place Oct. 16-18 in Primm, Nev.
