Polaris has issued a recall for certain RZR Pro R UTVs, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission. A faulty alternator can fail, overheat, and catch on fire.

The affected vehicles were sold at Polaris dealers between July 2022 through February 2023. The following 2022 models are included:

  • RZR Pro R Premium
  • RZR Pro R Sport
  • RZR Pro R Ultimate
  • RZR Pro R 4 Premium
  • RZR Pro R 4 Sport
  • RZR Pro R 4 Ultimate

It also affects these 2023 models:

  • RZR Pro R Ultimate
  • RZR Pro R 4 Premium
  • RZR Pro R 4 Ultimate

Polaris is in the process of contacting the owners of these vehicles to arrange repairs free of charge under the recall. A total of about 200 vehicles are affected, plus two that were sold in Canada. To see if yours is included in the recall, check your VIN, located on the vehicle’s frame in the left rear wheel well, and contact your Polaris dealer to verify it. Polaris recommends that if you have one of these RZRs, you should stop using it immediately until it is repaired.

In addition, it is possible that some of the affected alternators (part number 4017547) may have been sold as replacement parts, and are also included in the recall. In this case, checking your VIN won’t verify if you have one of these alternators or not. If you have one of these vehicles and have replaced your alternator, check with your dealer to make sure you didn’t get a recalled one.

While there are only four reports of failed alternators, and two that have caught fire, this isn’t something where you want to take any chances. If there’s any chance your RZR might be included in this recall, check with your dealer, and get it fixed if it is.
