ATV enthusiasts in western Georgia may have a new place to ride. The Carroll County Recreation Department will receive a $1 million grant to build ATV trails at Blackjack Mountain.

Funding will come from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Recreational Trails Program. In addition to ATV trails, the grant will also be used to create pedestrian and equestrian trails and trail features at the park.

Things are still in the planning stages, but development of more than 2,000 acres of land purchased by Carroll County could be open to the public by spring of 2011.

Carroll County is located about an hour’s drive west of Atlanta, close to the Alabama border.
