Gorilla Axle / Can-Am Racers Earn 5 CMR Podiums

Team Gorilla Axle / Can-Am had another good showing in the ITP Championship Mud Racing (CMR) series held at Southern Ridge ATV Park in Dozier Ridge, Ala. Three riders piloted their Can-Am vehicles to five total podiums, including second overall in the highly competitive Pro A division.

Steve Hittle has led the way aboard his Can-Am Outlander in the Pro A class in 2011 with five heat wins and an overall. The Team Gorilla Axle / Can-Am racer won round two and then finished second at round three to take over the class points lead. Hittle leads Can-Am-mounted racer Ethan LaFontaine by 10 points heading into round four. Hittle also is a major contender in the RUV class with his Can-Am Commander 1000 X. He’s currently No. 2 in that class and in the Super Modified (Open) division.

“Team Gorilla / Can-Am riders continue to challenge for the CMR title in their respective classes on ATVs and behind the wheel of the Commander side-by-side,” says Jimmie O’Dell, Can-Am race manager. “Steve had another good run in the Pro A class, finishing second and maintaining his points lead.”

Wes Miller Finishes Second at Finke Desert Race in Australia

Wes Miller, founder of H-Bomb Media and the Bomb Squad, took to the red-soil trails of the Outback as he managed to finish second after two grueling days of racing. Tattersall’s Finke Desert Race is considered by many to be Australia’s version of the Baja 1000 and was held June 11-13. GBC Motorsports provided Miller with X-Rex tires to help him tackle the rough Aussie terrain as he competed with some of the fastest racers in the southern hemisphere.

Miller has plenty of experience in off-road racing, winning four Baja 500s in as many years as well as two Baja 1000s and three straight SCORE championships. Most recently, Miller helped teammates Wayne Matlock and Josh Caster win the Open Pro ATV Class in the 2011 Baja 500, just a week before the Finke Desert Race was set to begin. The team is leading in points in the 2011 SCORE season and is poised to win another championship.

Following a quick turnaround Miller and his crew spent the week in Alice Springs, Australia building a quad from the ground up. As title sponsor for Miller’s endeavor, GBC Motorsports provided X-Rex tires for the race.

Yokley Racing Team on Display at Thunder Over Louisville

The National Guard Polaris Coastal Drilling Yokley Racing Team hauler traveled to Louisville Kentucky for the annual Thunder over Louisville on April 16. This one day event features the largest annual fireworks show in the country, kicking off the festivities leading up to the Kentucky Derby on the first Saturday in May.

Unusually volatile spring weather in the region made less than perfect weather conditions for the event. Intermittent rain, cool temps and windy conditions kept the attendance less than normal. However, 300,000 people attended and witnessed a great air show featuring 90 military and other aircraft, including the latest $150 million F-22 Raptor fighter jet. As well, 58,000 shells were exploded for the grand finale 30 minute fireworks display.

Creamer Leaves Bomb Squad Racing to Return to Motocross

Bomb Squad Racing has announced that 2010 AMA ATV MX champion Josh Creamer will be leaving the Bomb Squad WORCS team to race the New England Motocross series for the powerhouse Motorworks/DWT team.

“We’d really like to keep Josh out here racing the WORCS series, but when a factory level team comes knocking it’s hard to stand in the way of that”, says H-Bomb Media guru Wes Miller. “We lost one of our key sponsors a few weeks before the Havasu round, so it’s been quite a scramble getting back on the gas. We worked hard and had things pulled back together… but this deal came along and it’s a really good situation for Josh. We would have loved to finish out the WORCS season , but Josh’s heart is in Motocross, and this is a good resolution all the way around. Winning Primm was icing on the cake for the Bomb Squad. Now we’re going to re-focus on our Baja efforts, the Moore Brothers, and making great television.”

Though Creamer’s roots were in ATV motocross, he adapted quickly to the world of WORCS racing. After a hard fought fourth place finish at the opening round in Taft, Calif., Creamer came back to take the win at the second round in Primm, Nev.

“The Bomb Squad guys were great,” says Creamer. “They really busted their butts to make things happen for me, and I really appreciate it. I want to thank Wes and those guys for being cool about this opportunity with Motorworks/DWT. I look forward to really going after the New England Motocross title. After all, it’s in my back yard.”

ATV Racers Get Into Pathetic Fight [video]

You can’t be good at everything. For example, just because ATV racers are good at going fast on ATVs doesn’t mean they are good at fighting.

Some kind soul posted a video on YouTube recently that proved just that as two racers got into a dustup in the middle of a woods race. Getting into a fight is generally a bad idea, but we must admit that you do take a little of the danger out of the equation when you’re wearing full protective gear – including helmet, goggles and chest protector!

Even without all this protective equipment we figure the damage would have been minimal as these pitiable pugilists didn’t exactly pose any threat to Manny Pacquiao or Georges St-Pierre. They did more falling down than actually hitting each other, which was probably for the best. They probably would have broken their hands had they actually connected. Check out the video below the jump to see for yourself.

Kinston, NC Gets New ATV Race Track

ATV race fans in North Carolina should be happy to know that a new race course will be unveiled this month in Kinston, N.C. on the Lenoir Country Fairgrounds.

The news comes a year after a motocross track for dirt bikes debuted at the facility. The motocross track has a success and four races have been held their since it opened with two more scheduled to take place.

Adding a track for ATV riders was the next logical step.

“We’ve modified the existing demolition derby ring to accommodate demolition derbies, ATV racing, tractor pulls; we’re trying to make a multi-function area,” Brian Hussey of the Fair Association told ENCToday.com. “Most of the dirt was already there; we just moved it around and re-shaped it.”
