FRE/KTM ATV GNCC Race Report – Round 13
The dry, dusty conditions were no match for the FRE/KTM ride of Angel Atwell as she took the holeshot and led from start to finish in the Women’s Pro class aboard her KTM ATV.
Atwell’s holeshot gave her the early lead which allowed her to pull from the pack as the battle ensued behind her. At the end of the four lap race, Atwell crossed the checkers over a minute ahead of her competition. Not only did she win the Women’s class but she also won the morning overall. Kristen Atwell finished second overall while Lexie Coulter rounded out the top three.
In the XC1 class, FRE/KTM rider Bryan Cook got tangled up in the first corner with Chris Bithell, Bill Ballance, Taylor Kiser and Adam McGill. All five riders began to charge forward as a pack toward the lead group. Cook moved up to 8th by the end of lap two, sixth at the end of lap three and into the top five on lap four. Unfortunately, a mechanical problem caused him to withdrawal from the race on the fourth lap ending his day.
“Despite a rough start, I felt really good out there. I was riding decent and was able to make up good time through the pack. I am bummed we had an issue with the bike as I would have liked to end the season with a good finish,” says Cook. “Although we had some bad luck today, I can’t thank my team enough for all of their hard work this season.”
In the XC2 class, KTM support rider Josh Beavers put in another impressive ride. Beavers started around the top five and worked his way up into the top three. At the end of the 2-hour race he finished third overall.
