SCORE and BITD titles highlight season

Team Christy put together a remarkable 2009 race campaign as the four-year-old race team from Burbank, Calif. contested both the SCORE and the Best in the Desert series. The team finished on the podium in every race and earned three championships in the process.

SCORE

Christy’s retained its class 24 (Pro 450cc) #1 plate from 2008 and started the year off strong with a win at the San Felipe 250. Keeping the momentum moving, the Baja 500 was up next and another victory was the result.

The real work came in November as the team contested the 42nd running of the notorious Baja 1000. This year’s 1000 was shortened to 631 miles, however most of the 328 entrants would agree, this was the toughest course in recent memory. Christy rider Dave Scott will never forget his after dark ride through the infamous “Mikes Loops” including a failed headlight and freezing temperatures. Rebounding from several mid-race mechanical issues, the goal shifted from winning to finishing! After over 29 hours of racing, the team crossed the finish line in 3rd place.

Christy rider Andy Lagzdins flew in from Baltimore Md. to attend all the B.I.T.D. and SCORE races!

This hard fought result was just enough to earn the coveted SCORE Overall ATV Championship by a tiny six-point margin over Honda backed Wayne Matlock.

BITD

Craig Christy, Steve Abrego and Andy Lagzdins blasted out of the box by winning the first two rounds, the Parker 250 and the Bluewater GP. By taking a hard-earned third in the 1000 mile Vegas to Reno and following that up with podiums at the final two rounds, the team clinched the Championship in the Quad Expert class with room to spare.
