2017 Can-Am ATV and UTV Lineup Unveiled

“We’ve optimized the 2017 Can-Am Off-Road lineup to benefit both our dealer network and customers,” said Anne Bélec, SVP Global Brand, Communications and PAC at BRP. “This includes introducing more specialized vehicles to the portfolio while at the same time scaling back in some areas. These changes reflect our commitment to expand the Can-Am Off-Road lineup while staying true to our brand DNA, which is grounded in performance and innovation.”

We’ll dig deep into some of the bigger news in future articles, but here we will look at the lineup in its entirety.

Can-Am has been very proactive with its new Defender family of Utility Side-by-Sides and that hasn’t changed for the 2017 model year. The newest addition to the Defender family is the Defender Mossy Oak Hunting Edition HD10.

Built around the Defender XT package, the three-seat, 72-horsepower Mossy Oak Hunting Edition features water-dipped Mossy Oak Break-Up Country camo, Double Kolpin Stronghold gun boots, tool holders, Headache Rack with LinQ quick-attach system, half windshield, full hard roof, full under body skid plate with front aluminum pre-runner skid plate, heavy duty front bumper, left-side mirror, 14-inch black cast-aluminum wheels, and LED RAM spotlight on a double ball and socket system that plugs into a 12V lighter-type DC outlet. Retail price is $19,699.

On the opposite side of the UTV segment, Can-Am has come to market with a pair of new Mavericks for 2017 – the Maverick MAX X mr 1000R and Maverick xc 1000R.

Designed for wreaking havoc in the mud, the 101-horsepower Maverick MAX X mr 1000R is essentially a longer wheelbase version (an extra 29.5 inches) of the two-seat Maverick X mr 1000R. This mud-eating machine comes equipped with the same CVT with Quick Response System (QRS) as Maverick MAX Turbo vehicles for improved power transfer and quicker engagement. And extra low range “L-gear” allows for increased load. Other features include FOX 2.5 Podium QS3 piggyback shocks, Tri-Mode dynamic power steering, new front sway bar with a torsional spring design, 30-inch Gorilla Axle Silverback tires, 14-inch cast-aluminum wheels, 4,500-pound winch, mudguards and more. Retail price is $23,999.

The 60-inch Maverick xc 1000R is a narrower version of the Maverick designed for woods riders and racers. Features include the 101-horsepower Rotax 1000R V-Twin engine, FOX 2.0 Podium C piggyback shocks, new front sway bar, 27-inch Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires and 14-inch cast-aluminum wheels. Retail price is $15,699.

Can-Am had done away with the Outlander L models and unified them into the Outlander name. If you were worried about losing the Outlander L value, don’t. The base Outlander 450 retails for just $5,999, which is $400 less than the outgoing Outlander L 450. That lower price does come at a cost, as the five-year warranty is replaced by the standard six-month warranty.

The Can-Am Outlander family is available in five engine sizes – 450, 570, 650, 850 and 1000R. All five Outlander displacement levels are available in a single-seat chassis or a longer wheelbase (MAX) two-up platform, and a variety of price points and different packages. Packages include base models (450, 570, 650), DPS, (all engines), XT (570, 650, 850, 1000R), Mossy Oak Hunting Edition (570, 1000R), and XT-P (850, 1000R).

New for 2017 are the Outlander XT 570 ($8,349) and Outlander MAX XT 570 ($9,349) models. Both models feature 25-inch Maxxis tires, 12-inch aluminum wheels, 3,000-pound WARN winch, front and rear bumpers and handlebar wind deflectors. Both are available in Yellow or Pure Magnesium (+$400).

Also new is the Outlander 6×6 DPS 650, which is Can-Am’s price-point model in the 6×6 ATV class. This model is equipped with a 62-horsepower 650cc V-Twin engine, Tri-Mode DPS, Visco-Loc QE, 12-inch cast-aluminum wheels, 26-inch Carlisle Badlands tires, tilt-assist cargo bed with 700-pound capacity and new radio frequency digitally encoded security system. Retail price is $12,999.

Finally, BRP is appealing to hunters with the new Outlander Mossy Oak Hunting Edition 1000R, which retails for $13,649. This starts with the Outlander XT package and adds a host of hunting-specific goodies, including 26-inch Carlisle ACT radial tires, Kolpin 6.0 Impact gun boot with rack, Kolpin Gear grips, full aluminum skid plate, LED RAM spotlight and Mossy Oak Break-Up Country camo.

As for Sport ATVs, the only new model from Can-Am for 2017 is the Renegade X mr 570. BRP says this is the most affordable mud-specific ATV in the industry. Features include 48-horsepower V-Twin engine, integrated CVT intake, mud-riding footpegs, Tri-Mode DPS, Visco-Lok QE front differential, steel racks with LinQ quick-attach system, 2.9-gallon water-resistant rear storage compartment, 500W magneto and 70W of lighting. Retail price is $8,549.
