Byrd Wins Grand Slam Championship
Joe Byrd clinched the $5,000 ITP Tires Grand Slam Championship presented by QUAD Magazine on August 11 at Loretta Lynn Ranch.
The championship within a championship is part of the ITP Tires/Moose Racing AMA/ATVA National Championship presented by Parts Unlimited.
Byrd, American Honda/Joe Byrd Riding School, won two out of the four races in the special championship. He earned $1,000 for each victory, as well an extra $1,000 and a gold medal for the overall title. Team MSR/Suzuki/Yoshimura/Pro Taper’s Dustin Wimmer finished second in the chase, earning a silver medal, while the bronze medal went to Jeremy Lawson of Team Epic Can-Am.
“That was a really cool thing for the series to do,” says Byrd of the special program, which was unveiled earlier this year and featured special awards in every racing class. “Having a series within a series gave us all something extra to try to win and it feels good to be the first person to win it. It’s awesome.”
Wimmer and teammate Chad Wienen each won a single race, earning $1,000 each.
