Be ready to ride when the temperatures drop
Quality ATV jackets are an essential piece of gear for those who take their off-road excursions serious. Here are some of our favorites you should consider.
If you are not in the heat of summer (and even sometimes then), the possibility of hitting cooler and wetter riding conditions is a distinct possibility. Quality riding jackets are an essential piece of gear for those who take their off-road excursions seriously, making it the perfect time to consider the various options that have made our must-have list.
To make the list, a jacket should be at least water-repellant, have ample room for movement, and (of course) look good. Here are some of the best ATV jackets available today to get you properly suited up for cool- or wet-weather riding.
Table of Contents
1. Editor's Choice: Klim Traverse
When you absolutely positively refuse to get wet, you should definitely consider the Klim Traverse. This is a true all-season jacket thanks to its GORE-TEX construction, keeping it both guaranteed waterproof and breathable. More durable than a normal rain jacket and less bulky than a full adventure jacket, the Klim Traverse makes for one the best ATV jackets money can buy.
Other features include 500D cordura overlays on the shoulders and outer arms, 3M Scotchlite reflective material, YKK zippers, adjustable elbow armor pad pockets, breathable open mesh liner, fleece-lined collar, two zippered hand pockets, and a whole lot more.
2. Fly Racing Patrol
The Fly Racing Patrol ATV jacket is very popular, and with good reason. They are reasonably priced, and configurable for all-day comfort. With plenty of ventilation you can keep air moving around all day, or if temperatures rise a little too high for you, the sleeves zip off and turn the jacket into a vest. It has reinforced elbow pads, and a neoprene neck collar for comfort, along with a windproof, waterproof and breathable shell.
3. Fox Racing Legion Downpour
Fox Racing makes some of the most stylish gear available, and its take on an off-road jacket is no exception—a little different, and very cool. The Legion is a form-fitting jacket with a TRUSEAL waterproof membrane, and 3L TRUMOTION 4-way stretch fabric construction. This means the jacket will allow full-range of movement, and keep you completely dry in the process. The Fox Legion Downpour riding jacket is also cut with a long tail to keep water from sneaking up on you from behind.
4. Answer Racing Ops Pack
One of the more affordable ATV jackets on our list, the Answer Racing Ops Pack jacket is designed to be folded and packed away until you need it. Great for strapping down to your ATV’s rack or shoving into a UTV glove box, the Ops Pack jacket features a lightweight waterproof shell, stashable hood, taped seams, reflective panels for added visibility, and it can be packed within itself for easy storage.
5. Carhartt Men's Dry Harbor
While not designed specifically as an ATV jacket or even for off-road recreation, the Carhartt Dry Harbor jacket would be a great option to keep around for when Mother Nature is throwing a fit. This jacket is built with Storm Defender fabric technology, which is a membrane that is applied to the fabric to keep water from reaching the rider while allowing sweat and heat to escape. Besides adding a fleece to wear underneath when it gets chilly, this jacket is all you need.
