2011 Honda Big Red Unveiled
Originally released as a 2009 model, Honda has made considerable changes to its Big Red Multipurpose Utility Vehicle (MUV) for the 2011 model year.
While many of its competitors focused on sporty performance with their side-by-side offerings, Honda designed the Big Red to be a comfortable and capable trail cruiser that can get the work done like few others. Those attributes should only be enhanced with the new changes.
“Now Big Red sports changes that allow this great MUV to work even harder while delivering more comfort,” Honda says in a release.
New for 2011
Honda boosted the capacity of the cargo bed to an impressive 1,000 pounds – a whopping 500-pound increase. In addition to being able to haul more cargo, the Big Red’s towing capacity has also been increased to 1,500 pounds – a 300 pound improvement over the previous model.
Another key change to the Big Red is the addition of Maxxis Big Horn tires. These are some of the most highly acclaimed tires in the industry and they come stock on a variety of side-by-sides, including the super-sporty Polaris Ranger RZR S (pre-2011 models only) and the utility-minded Kawasaki Mule 610 4×4 XC. According to Honda, these tires offer increased sidewall strength and a more aggressive tread pattern for increased traction.
Suspension has also been addressed as the 2011 Big Red features revised front and rear suspension settings and preload adjustability.
Rider and passenger comfort has been addressed with a new contoured bench seat. Honda says this will allow easier entry and exit and improve comfort.
Finally, the Roll Over Protection Structure (ROPS) is now certified to meet the requirements of OSHA 1928.53.
