Yes...that Segway

Segway ATV and UTV models are coming soon…and that is something I never thought I’d have to type at any point in my life. But it’s true. And yes…it’s that Segway. The one that makes the two-wheel personal transport vehicles.

Segway Powersports is the new branch of the company and the new off-road products will be officially revealed at the Milan Motorcycle Show (otherwise known as EICMA) on November 5.

All I can really offer about this news is that it is not an April Fool’s joke. It’s a real thing. And we even have some video proof of the upcoming Segway ATV and UTV models by way of a teaser for the EICMA show, which takes place November 5-10.

There are a few key details that can be parsed from the video. I spotted what I think is an ATV, a Sport UTV and a Utility UTV, but nothing was on the screen for very long or at a very good angle (this is just a teaser, after all). I have included screen grabs of the three models below.

Segway ATV
Segway Sport UTV
Segway Utility UTV

The word “Hybrid” was written on the door of a UTV. I assume this means there will be some sort of gas/electric hybrid powertrain. That probably makes a lot more sense for the UTVs than it would for an ATV, but at this point it’s just speculation. Segway has experience with electric motors, but I’m not aware of any hybrid technology coming from the company before this. But to be fair, the idea of a Segway ATV hasn’t exactly been top of mind in the years I’ve been writing about off-road vehicles.

The final bit of information we have doesn’t come from the video. The European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) did reveal three trademarked names and logos from Segway: Snarler, Villain and Fugleman. We think those are going to be the names, as the Utility UTV seems to have “Fugleman” written on it. I had to look up “Fugleman” to have even the slightest idea why a UTV would have that name. Click here if you are as curious as I was.
